Course Details

You've decided to ditch the cubicle and work for yourself as a freelance writer. Before you start looking forward to days of sitting around your house in your bunny slippers and PJs, writing for the biggest publications, you need to develop a plan. Freelancing is, first and foremost, a business. You'll need to market your skills, keep your financial house in order, and figure out just what the heck you want to do as a writer.

This seminar will show you how to prepare to become a full-time freelancer and what to expect after you've taken the leap.

In this seminar, you'll learn how to:

  • Decide whether to freelance full or part time
  • Prepare yourself to go freelance from a financial standpoint
  • Put together a business as well as a personal freelance plan
  • Determine how much you'll need to make on an hourly basis
  • Think about what your specialties will be
  • Do the basics of freelance marketing (queries, follow-ups, letters of introduction)
  • Find out about markets and writing options you may not be thinking about
