Course Details

As a freelancer, you need to have a firm understanding of what editors want, need, and -- perhaps most important -- what they hate. In this informative and entertaining seminar, you'll learn how to go from getting your foot in the door as a freelancer to being welcomed back over and over to write stories. Having the skills, the ideas, and a spot-on query will boost your chances of getting your work published, but you also need to know how to avoid making crucial mistakes that will limit future writing opportunities. Find out what common no-no's to avoid and how to go from throwing wild pitches to really hitting your mark -- and being the writer editors clamor for again and again.

In this seminar, you will learn:

  • The absolute do's and don'ts of pitching and delivering your work
  • The basics of writer/editor etiquette that will make or break you
  • How to get beyond the pitch itself to build a productive and collaborative relationship with editors and clients
  • The best (and worst) ways to follow up with an editor
  • The truth about revision: what every writer should know, expect, and learn to love
  • How to manage and sustain an ongoing, dynamic relationship with all your clients and editors
  • How to lay the groundwork for future work, and keep editors coming back for more
